Screenwriter. Comedian. Slytherin. Hater of Alaska.

Unfiltered, uninhibited, and always authentic, Brandon Collins is both a versatile comedian who has performed at SXSW and the New York Comedy Festival in addition to appearing in various MTV (CollegeHumor show), VH1 (Love and Hip Hop NY), and HBOMax (Game Theory) productions. He is also an acclaimed screenwriter who recently participated in the 2022-2023 Universal Writer’s Lab and JHRTS’ inaugural mock writers room where his pitch provided the scope for the entire series.

Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Collins was shaped by the liberal college mecca’s embrace of creative expression. After theatrical turns in Dracula and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying ignited a love for writing and performing, a 2004 move to New York City turned Collins’ focus to live comedy.

As producer and co-host of the long-running Comedy Outliers, Collins helped build the acclaimed monthly from inception to critical favorite in publications like The New York Times, Huffington Post, A.M. New York, and Time Out. For seven years the show sold out venues from Union Hall to the Bell House; additional highlights include private events for Yelp, Brown Paper Tickets, and Webster Hall. Beginning in February 2019 his production acumen on the tongue-in-cheek Drunk Black History continued a streak of media coverage in The New York Times, Thrillist, Boston Globe, and Time Out. He is also an active member of the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), Film Independent and the Junior Hollywood Radio & Television Society (JHRTS).

On the podcast front, Medium Popcorn finds Collins and co-host Justin Brown unleashing their inner Siskel and Ebert so persuasively that no less than RogerEbert.com describes the repartee as “hilarious, back-and-forth bull sessions” and “an addictive pleasure.” Though the tagline may be “Niggas Spoilin’ Movies,” the duo’s weekly episodes belie an ever-evolving penchant for embracing film as an entry point for addressing larger social issues. Vulture and black entertainment powerhouse Shadow and Act cite Medium Popcorn on their “Best Of” lists, while Rotten Tomatoes counts the show among its accredited review outlets. The podcast has provided press coverage for such prestigious film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Film and Music Festival, New York Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival where Brandon was also a participant in the 2020 TIFF Media Inclusive Initiative.

Collins has also proven a popular guest on such podcasts as Roy Wood Jr.’s Job Fair, Doug Loves Movies, Never Seen It with Kyle Ayers, Robert Kelly's You Know What Dude, Go Fact Yourself, Why You Mad?, The Black Guy Who Tips, and For All Nerds.

Most recently, his latest foray into the digital art form has brought Collins full circle. New podcast What Kind of Mayo? finds the Nickelodeon fan revisiting classic animated series Doug to explore how the cast of rainbow-hued characters shaped issues of cultural diversity for Nineties teens of all backgrounds. Creator/dream guest Jim Jenkins’ multiracial backdrop provides Collins ample opportunity to revisit the (hilarious) adolescent traumas that molded him into the man he is today…a firm believer in the connective power of comedy to foster deeper communication. And if he can crack the mystery of what race Patti Mayonnaise was along the way, even better.

Brandon currently splits his time between New York City and Los Angeles, California. He is repped by Gramercy Park Entertainment.
